Viktor & Rolf Spicebomb

May 2, 2012 (3 weeks ago)

A big thanks to Jen for sending these in from the Viktor & Rolf Spicebomb range which launched nationally back in March.

These are pretty luxurious products for the discerning geezer. A Deodorant, Shower Gel and After Shave Balm which compliment each other nicely. The Shower Gel has all the ingredients for a great showering experience. There’s zesty elemi spices with some bergamot thrown in for the fragrance. It lathers up well and leaves you smelling great.

The After Shave Balm is quite runny for a moisturiser which did put me off but it really redeemed itself with it’s fresh, invigorating fragrance and it absorbed into my skin easily too. It definitely won me over in the end and I just loved the smell of it.

Two big ticks out of three so far. So what about the Deodorant? This was the icing on the cake for me. Fantastic spicy fragrance again and when applied it felt like my armpits were shrinking as the product worked its soothing deodorant protection into my skin. Kept me drier than Ghandi’s flip flop throughout the day.

Lotil Cream

April 25, 2012 (4 weeks ago)

Nice little cream this from Lotil which works wonders on all dry skin.

I occasionally suffer from dry skin between my fingers and this worked a charm. It absorbed into the skin nicely and dried quickly too without leaving any greasy residue which other creams can do.

Lotil is great for use on your body, face (although not around the eyes, the eyes, not around the eyes!) hands, elbows, knees etc.

A great all rounder and well worth a try.

You can buy the 50ml Lotil Cream from the mighty Boots.com. The RRP is £3.59 with delivery of £2.95.

Moosehead Hair Dough & Wax

April 18, 2012

I love Moosehead products. Funky packaging, great smelling product and if you get the right one for your hair you’re onto a winner.

Having already reviewed their Hard Wearing Fibre and Hard Core Wax last year (read here) I was looking forward to trialing their Shaping Dough and Forming Wax.

If these two were battling out for the affections of my barnet the Forming Wax would win by a long shot. The Dough isn’t bad (it smells almost edible and is great to apply!), but for hold and my hair type (which is short to medium) the Forming Wax just walked it for me. It doesn’t have the texture of a pure wax and my hair didn’t seem waxy or greasy after. Great hold throughout the day too.

Once again those Aussies at Moosehead have floated my boat with their cool and trendy hair products. Good on ya cobbers!

Kyoku Body Scrub

April 11, 2012

Thanks to Bex for sending in this Body Scrub from Kyoku.

Incorporating ancient Japanese knowledge with up-to-the-minute scientific research it has a powerful delivery mechanism that allows products to penetrate deep into the skin.

So is it any good?

Mine came with an optional pump (thanks again Bex!) which made it easier to use in the shower. It has quite a musky smell with the appearance of honey (with bits in!) and it feels great when you’re rubbing it on. You’ll need to put lotion on afterwards (I know, I know. What us Geezers go through eh!) as it does dry out your skin. There’s a Kyoku lotion too which would finish the job nicely.

I used this scrub a few times after swmimming and it was great for getting rid of the chlorine. Recommended use is 2-3 times a week so get scrubbing you dirty geezers!

Check out the Kyoku range here.

Kokorico Eau De Toilette

March 28, 2012

Very interesting EDT this from Jean Paul Gaultier.

The bottle design is a strange one but I kinda like it. Reminds me of the monuments on Easter Island. I’m pretty confident that wasn’t the angle JPG was aiming for but I digress.

Now to the really interesting part. The fragrance itself…

Apparently opinions are divided on this and I can understand why. The first spray did make me reel back a little. Jesus it’s strong smelling stuff which smacks you in the senses with every spray. There’s a musky aroma to it which took me back to the days of my dad’s old spice and other old skool aftershaves. But once the initial shock died down and I got on with my morning the scent popped up from time to time throughout the day but it was a much more subtle version of the first spray. Very masculine and intriguing. And I loved it.

This is the genius of Kokorico Eau De Toilette. It starts off by nearly destroying all nasal functionality but then comes back to say sorry several times throughout the day and spreads it’s love. Très Bien Mr Gaultier, très Bien.

Diesel Only The Brave Tattoo EDT

March 7, 2012

The fist of fragrance is back!

And this time it’s gonna leave it’s mark on you in a fragranced tattoo stylee. This is Diesel’s new Only The Brave Tattoo EDT available nationwide April 2012.

It’s a lingerer this one. Much stronger and more potent than the Captain America EDT which is more subtle and fresh. I’d wear this for a night out as it’s got that allure to it if you want to make an impact. Like I said, it’s not subtle but sometimes that’s a good thing!

Made up with a zesty apple aroma for starters there’s also a heart of sage and Bourbon pepper. The base features amber-wood tacts, tobacco, benzoin and patchouli too.

The logo design on the bottle is in a classic tattoo style created by a chap called ‘Mister Cartoon’ (I kid you not) from LA where he’s inked many a rapper’s body (Eminem, 50 Cent, Snopp Dog etc) and now he’s left his distinctive mark on Diesel’s bottle.

Nice one Diesel. And a ‘Big Up’ to the inking maestro Mister Cartoon.

L’Occitane Verdon Invigorating Shave

February 29, 2012

Nice shaving gel this from L’Occitane.

It foams up nicely when sprayed into your mitt but doesn’t lather up as well as I’d hoped. But I keep coming back to it because it does give you a great smooth shave. Your blade will just slide that stubble off.

Containing plant-based soothing agents it’s great for sensitive skin too and it does leave your skin feeling great.

The RRP for L’Occitane Verdon Invigorating Shave is £10.50 and delivery is £3.95.

Toni & Guy Styling Products

February 22, 2012

Yep it’s London Fashion week.
But before you start worrying about your clothes don’t forget your barnet. Great clothes + unkept/skanky hair = uncool. ‘Iche don’t think so’ as Brüno would say.

I’d say most styles are achievable with these so you’ll have adaptability on your side when it comes to changing your look.

On their own these do the job but I tried mixing a little of the Putty in with the Fibre. This reduced the texture a bit but still gave me good matte finish which was exactly what I wanted.

Brüno would be proud.

Travalo Excel – Fragrance on the go

February 15, 2012

Great little gadget this.

It’s a refillable atomizer that enables you to carry a little of your favourite aftershave with you.

So if you hate bulky EDT/aftershave bottles taking up space in your gym bag then this is a great way round it. It’s also great for holidays too. Made from the same durable material as high tech aircraft (which means it’s shatterproof and leak proof) so there’s little risk of a spillage in your suitcase. And lets face it. The way our luggage get’s manhandled at airports we need all the help we can get!

It’s very easy to fill. Just remove the spray nozzle from your aftershave. Sit the Travalo on top of the nozzle peg and pump it up and down. The aftershave will shoot up and you’ll see the fill level rise in the level indicator window. Dead simple!
When full it gives you up to 65 sprays. Find out more here.
